Bryan issues February proclamations recognizing Black history, heart health and education observances
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued proclamations for several February observances in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including National Black History Month, Heart Health Month, National Children’s Dental Health Month and Career and Technical Education Month, according to a Government House announcement published on February 6, 2024.
The announcement said Bryan declared February as National Black History Month to recognize the contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history. He also designated February as Heart Health Month and, on February 2, encouraged residents to observe Wear Red Day and take steps to improve heart health.
Bryan also proclaimed February as National Children’s Dental Health Month, citing the importance of dental habits formed at a young age, and as Career and Technical Education Month, recognizing Virgin Islands Department of Education programs that provide high school students with work-based learning experiences.
In addition, Bryan proclaimed February 5 through February 9 as National School Counseling Week in the Virgin Islands, February 18 through February 24 as National Engineering Week, and February 29 as Digital Learning Day.
