Bryan issued statement on Delia Smith nomination for U.S. attorney
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on Sept. 29, 2021, congratulating Assistant U.S. Attorney Delia L. Smith on her nomination to serve as U.S. attorney for the District of the Virgin Islands.
In the statement, Bryan said Smith's more than 15 years in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of the Virgin Islands and her ties to St. John made her qualified for the post. He also thanked Delegate Stacey Plaskett for putting Smith's name forward to President Joe Biden.
According to Government House, Smith had served in the U.S. Attorney's Office since 2005. From 2012 to 2014, she was detailed as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of International Affairs. Before joining the Justice Department, she served as an assistant attorney general in the Virgin Islands Department of Justice from 1999 to 2005.
Government House said Smith received a law degree from Texas Southern University in 1997 and a bachelor's degree from the University of the Virgin Islands in 1993.
