Contracts finalized for restoration of Government House and The Battery

Government House said on February 7, 2020, that contracts had been finalized for restoration work at Government House on St. Thomas and The Battery on St. John.

The work was scheduled to begin on February 14, 2020, and was to include refurbishing floors, painting and restoring walls and ceilings, and repairing plumbing and landscaping. The administration said both buildings were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria and required extensive cleaning and restoration.

J. Benton Construction LLC was awarded the Government House contract with a bid of $3,678,075. The estimated construction time was 365 calendar days.

Custom Builders was awarded the contract for The Battery with a bid of $1,131,538. The estimated construction time was 210 calendar days.

According to Government House, funding for the Government House restoration was to come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, while restoration of The Battery was to be funded through insurance proceeds.
