Government House said territorial eviction suspension expired Sept. 27, CDC order remained in effect

Government House said on October 7, 2020, that Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.'s order suspending provisions of Title 28, Chapter 13 of the Virgin Islands Code governing landlord-tenant actions expired on September 27, 2020.

The expiration applied to both residential and commercial tenants, according to the statement.

Government House also said a separate order issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on September 4, 2020, temporarily halted residential evictions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

That CDC order applied in the U.S. Virgin Islands and remained in effect through December 31, 2020, the statement said.

Government House advised residents concerned about a possible eviction to consult an attorney licensed by the Virgin Islands Bar Association to determine whether the CDC order applied to their situation.
