Mapp approves four road repair contracts for St. Thomas and St. Croix
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp approved four road repair contracts on Nov. 2, 2018, for work at Pilgrims Terrace Bypass on St. Thomas, Estate Work and Rest Route 622, West Airport Road Route 64 at Estate Diamond, and Hermon Hill Road in Christiansted.
According to Government House, the Pilgrims Terrace Bypass project included temporary traffic control, roadway excavation, reinforced retaining walls, a reinforced concrete swale and new guardrails.
At Route 64 West Airport Road in Estate Diamond, the work called for full-depth reclamation with cement, 2-inch asphalt concrete pavement, road milling and thermoplastic directional markings. In Estate Work and Rest, the contract called for 3-inch asphalt concrete pavement and thermoplastic pavement markings. Hermon Hill Road was slated for 2-inch asphalt paving and road reconditioning.
The Department of Public Works said more than 20 road improvement projects were active across the territory.
Government House also said Mapp signed a separate $130,000 contract on Nov. 2, 2018, to demolish the stadium stand and other damaged structures at the Randall "Doc" James Racetrack on St. Croix.
