WAPA held informational session and Randolph Harley plant tour for 35th Legislature on April 17
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it held an informational session and tour of the Randolph Harley Power Plant on St. Thomas on April 17, 2023, for members of the 35th Legislature and the Public Service Commission.
WAPA said the two-part event included presentations on the authority’s operations, strategic plan and partnership with water provider Seven Seas. Department heads and Seven Seas Caribbean Relations Manager Catherine Wilson also discussed organizational structure, progress and challenges, according to the authority.
The second part of the event included a visit to the Randolph Harley plant, where lawmakers were shown WAPA’s generation systems and received a preview of Wärtsilä generators and battery energy storage systems, the authority said.
WAPA said senators also asked questions about federally approved grants and projects underway across the territory involving water quality, grid hardening and electric service reliability.
