Anderson Stewart Family Foundation gave $1 million to Health Department for COVID-19 response
Government House said on April 13, 2020, that the Anderson Stewart Family Foundation had given a $1 million grant to the Virgin Islands Department of Health for equipment and services tied to the territory’s COVID-19 response.
According to the announcement, the money was to be used to buy rapid testing kits, N95 masks, personal protective equipment, respirators and laser infrared thermometers. Funds also were to support stress counseling and mental health services for residents affected by the coronavirus.
The donation was to be facilitated through Virgin Islands Partners for Healthy Communities, a domestic 501(c)(3) corporation, and disbursed through the Department of Health.
Government House said supplies purchased with the grant were to be distributed to the Health Department and health-care organizations, Juan F. Luis Hospital, Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, territorial community district distribution campaigns, the Department of Education, Police Department, Bureau of Corrections, National Guard, Department of Justice, and community partners including Ten Thousand Helpers, the Women’s Coalition and The Village.
