The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on February 3, 2023, that its waterline rehabilitation project in the Clifton Hill neighborhood on St. Croix was 87% complete.
WAPA said the project began in June 2022 and was funded through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under the territory's Drinking Water Capital Improvement Grant, with funds distributed through the Department of Planning and Natural Resources.
According to the authority, the work included replacing existing ductile piping and water mains in Clifton Hill, along with laterals, valves, fittings and hydrants. WAPA said the project would shift the system from ductile iron pipe to C900 PVC pipe and add smart water meters.
WAPA said the work was intended to reduce waterline breaks, improve control of system components and improve water quality and delivery efficiency.
