Mapp approved funding for apportionment special election

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp informed Senate President Myron Jackson on Nov. 2, 2018, that he had approved funding for a special election on a citizen-backed initiative to change the structure of the Legislature.

Bill No. 32-0329, enacted as Act No. 8127, provided for a special election on a plan to create district senators and at-large senators and to impose residency requirements.

The measure also appropriated $145,000 to the Virgin Islands Elections System to conduct the election. Government House said the Office of Management and Budget had issued the allotment releasing the funds.
