Main Street road closures and Garden Street detours began May 6 in Charlotte Amalie

The Virgin Islands Department of Public Works said work on the Main Street Revitalization Project in Charlotte Amalie resumed nightly road closures on Main Street beginning May 6, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice.

The department said it began installing pipe culverts on Garden Street on May 7, 2019, to improve drainage, requiring detours in the area.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic was limited to one lane heading south from Garden Street and Bunker Hill. No right turns were allowed from Norre Gade into Garden Street and Bunker Hill, except for access to Government Hill. Traffic heading to Garden Street and Bunker Hill from Norre Gade was detoured west on Main Street, then onto Nye Gade, Back Street and Garden Street.

From 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., the department said traffic had to access Guttets Gade from Veterans Drive, continue north, turn right on Back Street, then left on Garden Street and proceed north. Access to Main Street from Post Office Plaza was also closed.
