The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 15, 2023, that a 24-inch water mainline had broken on the waterfront apron in downtown Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas.

WAPA said the leak had been isolated, but the shutdown was expected to leave much of downtown Charlotte Amalie with little to no water pressure.

The authority said the disruption also affected areas as far west as Kerwin Terrace and as far east as Estate Bakkero.

WAPA said water maintenance crews had mobilized on March 15, 2023, and were working on repairs.
