Hazardous tree removed on Strand Street in Christiansted
A tree identified as a safety hazard on Strand Street next to 40 Strand Eatery in Christiansted was removed on June 13, 2019, according to Government House.
The administration said the tree had been pulling away from the wall foundation behind it as it grew, and that its large branches posed a risk to pedestrians in the area. The tree also had become entangled in cables belonging to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority and Viya.
Government House said Public Works crews and the Army Corps of Engineers worked together to remove the tree after planning with the Public Works Department, WAPA and Viya.
