WAPA said five new pumps restored normal water service on St. Croix’s west end

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 21, 2019, that potable water service had returned to normal for customers on the west end of St. Croix after five new pumps were commissioned at three pumping stations.

WAPA said the final two pumps were initialized at the Contentment site on March 20, joining one activated there on March 19. Two other pumps at Concordia and Richmond were also brought online on March 19.

The authority said personnel were continuing inspections and system adjustments to confirm the distribution system was functioning normally. WAPA said the five-million-gallon tank at Kingshill maintained a five-foot level throughout March 21, while demand on the system remained high from mid-island to the west end, including Frederiksted.

WAPA said it would continue monitoring the system over the following several days as it worked to increase storage capacity at the Kingshill tank.
