Bryan issues statement on death of Alvin McBean

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on Feb. 1, 2024, offering condolences on the death of Alvin McBean, a former professional baseball pitcher and longtime Virgin Islands sports employee.

In the statement, Bryan said McBean had played a major role in youth baseball in the territory, including through Little League, and had worked for 34 years at the agency then known as the Bureau of Recreation, now the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation.

Bryan said McBean spent most of his professional baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and extended condolences to McBean’s family, friends and others in the Virgin Islands community.
