Government House says U.S. Virgin Islands remained on EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions

Government House said on Feb. 21, 2024, that the U.S. Virgin Islands remained on the European Union list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions following an announcement by the European Council of the European Union.

In a statement, Government House said Gov. Albert Bryan had opposed the territory’s inclusion on the list since 2019 and raised the issue during the Interagency Group on Insular Areas annual meeting on Feb. 21, 2024, at the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington.

Bryan said at the meeting that "It is unacceptable for us to continue being treated like a foreign country separate and apart from the United States. In the area of territorial tax treatment, especially, we continue to be treated inconsistently across the Territories as a group."

Government House said Bryan was scheduled to meet with State Department officials in Washington to discuss the matter and other issues affecting the territory.
