Bryan says EPA withdrawal of Limetree Bay permit did not require shutdown
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on March 25, 2021, that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had withdrawn one of the permits governing Limetree Bay’s refinery operations on St. Croix.
In a statement issued by Government House, Bryan said the withdrawn permit was the Plantwide Applicability Limit, or PAL, permit. He said the action did not require Limetree Bay to stop operating.
Bryan said the permit withdrawal subjected that permit to another round of review as part of a broader Biden administration review of environmental actions taken during the Trump administration.
He said Limetree Bay would continue operating and producing during the review process under its other permits, which he said required air and emissions monitoring.
