Bryan issued statement on retirees' claims for retroactive wages

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a statement on Sept. 18, 2019, in response to government retirees who gathered in front of Government House in Christiansted seeking payment of longstanding retroactive wages they said were owed to them.

In the statement, Bryan said his administration's priority was to keep the Government Employees' Retirement System solvent and continue annuity payments to nearly 9,000 retirees receiving benefits. He also said the administration had made addressing legacy bills a priority, including owed retroactive pay to government retirees, income tax refunds and debt owed to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority.
