Bryan awarded $30,000 grant to Ten Thousand Helpers of St. Croix

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. awarded a $30,000 grant on September 11, 2020, to Ten Thousand Helpers of St. Croix to assist the Frederiksted nonprofit with its fiscal 2021 operations.

According to Government House, the organization advocates for people who are homeless or dealing with mental health or substance-abuse issues. It provides shelter, life-skills programs and job training, and operates the transitional facility Rainbow House in Frederiksted.

Government House said the grant funds would aid men experiencing homelessness and mental health issues.

The announcement also said Bryan had submitted legislation in January 2020 to the 33rd Legislature titled the Virgin Islands Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Act. The measure would consolidate mental-health provisions in Virgin Islands law and establish a behavioral health, mental health, developmental disability, and alcohol and substance-abuse facility, according to the statement.

Ten Thousand Helpers was established in 2007, according to Government House.
