St. Croix container port underground electrical project was underway in October 2021
Work on an underground electrical project serving the St. Croix container port began on September 23, 2021, and was continuing as of October 19, 2021, according to the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority.
WAPA said the $2.8 million project would provide underground electrical service to shipping facilities along the south shore container port when completed.
The project ran from the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Port & Transshipment Center at Krause Lagoon to the Melvin Evans Highway. WAPA said it was fully federally funded and was expected to be completed by March 2022.
J. Benton Construction was the contractor. The work included trench excavation, installation of conduits and manholes, concrete backfill, and roadway surface restoration along the project route.
