Bryan issued October proclamations for Virgin Islands observances

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued proclamations for October 2023 recognizing the 50th anniversary of the Virgin Islands National Guard, Hispanic Heritage Month, and awareness campaigns for breast cancer, domestic violence and cybersecurity.

The proclamations designated October as "Month of the V.I. Guard" in recognition of 50 years since the Virgin Islands National Guard received federal recognition and was mobilized for military and civilian missions.

Bryan also proclaimed October as Hispanic Heritage Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Career in Construction Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

The proclamations designated Oct. 5, 2023, as Rothschild Francis Day, Oct. 9, 2023, as Indigenous Peoples Day in the Virgin Islands, and Oct. 28, 2023, as First Responders Day.

Bryan also proclaimed Oct. 8 through Oct. 14, 2023, as Fire Prevention Week and Oct. 22 through Oct. 28, 2023, as V.I. Taxi Week.
