Bryan submitted bill seeking $2.675 million for St. Croix infrastructure projects
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. submitted proposed legislation to the 34th Legislature on Jan. 25, 2021, seeking a $2.675 million appropriation from the Communities Facilities Trust Account for infrastructure projects on St. Croix.
The proposal allocated $300,000 to the Virgin Islands Public Finance Authority for a pier at the King’s Alley Hotel on the Christiansted Boardwalk; $300,000 to the Virgin Islands Port Authority for the dock at the Gallows Bay Marine Facility in Christiansted; $1 million to the Port Authority for a roll-on/roll-off ramp at the Gordon A. Finch Molasses Pier at Krause Lagoon; $400,000 to the Virgin Islands Government Hospitals and Health Facilities Corporation board for acquisition of Plot No. 7 in Estate Diamond Ruby for the reconstruction and expansion of Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center; and $675,000 to the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation for a drag racing strip at Plot 12-A-A VICORP land.
Government House said the Communities Facilities Trust Account was established under the agreement between Diageo USVI and the Virgin Islands government ratified by the 27th Legislature in 2008 and enacted as Act 7012. The account receives a portion of rum cover-over revenues for development, operations and maintenance of community or sports facilities or urban development projects.
