Bryan extended emergency order, stay-at-home restrictions through April 30

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said during a Government House briefing on March 30, 2020, that the U.S. Virgin Islands' state of emergency would be extended through April 30, along with the stay-at-home order, the territorywide closure of nonessential businesses and restrictions limiting restaurants to takeout and pickup service.

Bryan also ordered all beach restaurants closed effective immediately, citing concerns about people gathering in groups.

Government House said 180 people had been tested as of the afternoon of March 30. Of those, 126 tests were negative, 30 were positive and 24 were pending. The positive cases included 11 on St. Croix, 17 on St. Thomas and two on St. John.

Bryan said convenience stores and gas stations that did not take steps to prevent congregating could face closure or revocation of their business licenses.

He also said his administration had begun preparing to distribute federal stimulus funds, which he estimated at $40 million to $50 million, once the money became available from the U.S. Treasury.
