Bryan tours John A. Bell facility and marks opening of equine therapy program

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. toured the John A. Bell facility on St. Croix on July 31 and took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the opening of an equine therapy program, according to Government House.

Government House said Bryan also reviewed mental-health services at the facility, including a daytime clubhouse that inmates can use voluntarily. During the visit, he spoke with inmates about the mental-health program.

The administration said the facility also had added air conditioning to cells and resolved issues involving its food service program.

Bureau of Corrections Director Wynnie Testamark, facility staff and the Virgin Islands Equestrian Equine Therapy Project Inc. were recognized in the announcement for their work on the program.
