Bryan expanded vaccine lottery eligibility to residents with one dose and doubled prize pool
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on June 25, 2021, that the U.S. Virgin Islands would expand eligibility for its vaccine lottery to residents who had received one dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
The change increased the total prize amount to $2 million from $1 million and shifted the program to 10 consecutive weekly drawings in each district beginning July 9, 2021. Under the revised rules, fully vaccinated winners would receive $100,000 and winners with one dose of Pfizer or Moderna would receive $50,000.
The earlier announcement had limited eligibility to fully vaccinated residents and called for 10 consecutive drawings territorywide.
The expanded eligibility also applied to a special drawing for school-based workers and bus drivers tied to preparations for in-person learning in the 2021-2022 school year.
Government House said an official "Vax to Win USVI" website would launch at noon on June 28, 2021, with rules, drawing dates, winner announcements and registration information for school-based employees participating in the special drawing.
The announcement followed a June 24, 2021, confirmation by the V.I. Department of Health of the first identified B.1.1.7 COVID-19 variant case in the territory.
