WAPA board approved contract, insurance and generation measures at April 27 meeting

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s governing board approved several operational measures at its April 27, 2022 meeting, including contract amendments, an insurance renewal and a short-term extension of a generation lease on St. Croix.

The board approved amendments to contracts SC-15-16 and SC-36-17 to reflect that General Gases of the V.I. was doing business as Messer Gas. It also approved an increase in equipment rental costs on both contracts to $2,100 a month from $1,500 a month.

The board also approved an increase in excess liability insurance premiums to $345,093.75 from $315,000 and authorized Executive Director Andrew L. Smith to renew the policy through Theodore Tunick and Company for one year. WAPA said the coverage period would run from May 2022 through April 2023.

In addition, the board authorized Smith to enter into a 13-week extension of WAPA’s existing lease agreement with Aggreko LLC under the same terms and conditions as the current contract for generating capacity on St. Croix.
