Bryan says Limetree Bay to lay off 271 workers and suspend refinery restart plans
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on June 22, 2021, that Limetree Bay Refining had announced plans to suspend the restart of refinery operations on St. Croix and lay off 271 employees.
In a statement, Bryan said the Virgin Islands Department of Labor had activated rapid-response teams to help affected workers seek new employment or connect with unemployment benefits.
Bryan said his administration supported a refinery restart that considered the health and safety of St. Croix residents and refinery employees. He also said he remained hopeful that issues delaying a safe restart could be resolved quickly.
