Mapp approves $25.4 million for Waste Management Authority, including $4 million for vendors
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp approved Bill No. 32-0290 on October 2, 2018, appropriating $25.4 million from the General Fund to the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019.
The appropriation included $4 million for vendor payments.
Government House said the funding was intended to help pay waste haulers, increase the authority’s staff and cover outstanding vendor payments.
In a transmittal letter to Senate President Myron Jackson, Mapp said the authority remained responsible for managing large amounts of debris while continuing its regular solid-waste operations.
