Bryan scheduled to attend reopening of refurbished La Reine Fish Market on St. Croix
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. was scheduled to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 24, 2021, for the reopening of the refurbished La Reine Fish Market on St. Croix, according to Government House.
The market had been closed for 14 years because of infrastructure problems that raised health and safety concerns. Government House said the ceremony was set for 11:30 a.m. with Bryan, Planning and Natural Resources Commissioner Jean-Pierre Oriol, representatives from Delegate Stacey Plaskett’s office and members of the local fishing industry.
Government House said the facility would reopen with 18 individual stalls and 12 cleaning stations available for monthly rent to licensed commercial fishermen. The market also was to include an ice machine, ADA-compliant restrooms, parking and a 20,000-gallon holding tank for fish waste, replacing a 5,000-gallon tank.
Monthly rent was set at $150 for individual stalls and $75 for cleaning stations. Attendance at the ceremony was limited to 50 guests because of social-distancing requirements.
