Public Works distributed sandbags on Sept. 23 ahead of Tropical Storm Karen

The Virgin Islands Department of Public Works said it would distribute sandbags on September 23, 2019, to help residents prepare their homes ahead of Tropical Storm Karen.

On St. Croix, distribution was scheduled at the Department of Public Works in Annas Hope, the Department of Public Works in Mars Hill, Grove Place Fire Station and Cotton Valley Fire Station. On St. Thomas, distribution was scheduled at the Department of Public Works in Subbase and Tutu Fire Station. On St. John, distribution was scheduled at the Department of Public Works in Susannaberg.

Public Works locations were scheduled to distribute sandbags from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while fire stations were scheduled to distribute them from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The department said households would be limited to 10 bags each. Pre-filled sandbags were to be available for elderly residents and people with disabilities, access and functional needs.
