USVI Hurricane Recovery and Resiliency Task Force met on St. Croix

The U.S. Virgin Islands Hurricane Recovery and Resiliency Task Force met at Government House on St. Croix on March 28, 2018, with local and national participants from the public and private sectors.

Participants included Tom Secunda of Bloomberg LP, University of the Virgin Islands President David Hall, AECOM official Domingo Camarano, Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett, and St. Croix Foundation Executive Director Deanna James. Working groups also gave updates on health, vulnerable populations and the economy.

At the meeting, Hall said the university's research, climate-change expertise, workforce development and marine and environmental programs could support the territory's rebuilding efforts. James said nonprofits should be included in recovery planning because of the direct services they provide.

Gov. Kenneth Mapp said federal recovery funding gave the territory an opportunity to invest in mitigation and hardening projects. The next task force meeting was scheduled for the week of April 30, 2018, on St. Thomas.
