Contract approved for next phase of Melvin Evans Highway repairs on St. Croix

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp approved a $2.2 million contract for another phase of repairs on St. Croix’s Melvin Evans Highway, Government House said on Sept. 21, 2018.

The work was set to cover the stretch from Hannah’s Rest to the Good Hope intersection and include paving, repairs and safety improvements. V.I. Paving was contracted for the job, which Government House said was fully funded through Federal Highway Administration GARVEE bonds.

The contract called for completion within 90 days. Government House said the broader $15 million Melvin Evans Highway overhaul had been divided into multiple phases and was about halfway complete.

Government House also said 20 road repair projects were underway across the territory at the time.
