Ribbon-cutting held for 60-unit Magens Junction II affordable housing complex on St. Thomas
Government officials and project partners held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 3, 2021, for Magens Junction II, a 60-unit affordable housing development on St. Thomas.
The nine-story building includes 30 one-bedroom, one-bath units and 30 two-bedroom, two-bath units. It also has a ground-floor fitness center, community room and library.
Magens Junction II adjoins the 48-unit Magens Junction I development, which opened in 2018 and was described in the announcement as fully occupied.
According to Government House, the new building was financed through federal housing tax credits and includes two elevators. The release said the property has a microgrid using microturbines, solar panels and battery storage, and that its windows and sliding glass doors are impact-rated to meet Miami-Dade Code standards.
Government House said Jackson Development Co. built the project in partnership with the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority, the Government of the Virgin Islands and 20 local contractors.
