Bryan and Roach attend climate change assessment briefing at UVI Innovation Center
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach attended a climate change information session on June 12, 2024, at the UVI Innovation Center, according to Government House.
The session was led by University of the Virgin Islands President Emerita LaVerne E. Ragster and was attended by Cabinet members and representatives of government agencies.
Government House said Ragster, a research associate with the Caribbean Exploratory Research Center and a member of the U.S. Global Change Research Project, presented information on climate impacts in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with research partners Lloyd Gardner and Nora Alvarez-Berrios of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Puerto Rico.
According to the Government House account of the briefing, the presentation said 2023 set numerous temperature records, particularly on St. Croix, where it was the warmest year on record. The briefing also addressed risks to housing, transportation, agriculture, coral reefs, power plants, marine ports, airports, water security and food security.
