The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 20, 2023, that work had begun on the Campo Rico waterline rehabilitation project on St. Croix.

WAPA said the project was estimated to cost $7.3 million and was fully funded through the Territorial Drinking Water Capital Improvement Program by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, with funds distributed by the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources.

According to the authority, the work called for replacing existing ductile iron waterlines in Campo Rico with about 21,600 linear feet of C-900 PVC pipe, along with valves, meter boxes and hydrants.

WAPA said the project was scheduled to run from March 2023 through December 2023. During construction, residents in the area were told to expect road impacts and possible scheduled water service interruptions as the new system was installed, tested and activated.

The authority said Caritech and VI Paving were participating in the design and construction work.
