WAPA said it was current on Cigna health and dental payments
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on September 20, 2019, that it was current on medical and dental premium payments to Cigna for employee coverage.
WAPA Executive Director Lawrence J. Kupfer said the authority’s statement responded to published claims about its relationship with the insurer.
According to WAPA, a September 20 letter from The Gehring Group, the authority’s benefits administrator, said premium payments had been submitted through August 31, 2019, to Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company for employee medical and dental plans. The letter also said there was no known risk of a lapse in coverage for those plans as of that date.
WAPA also said Human Resources Director Sabrina King Leonce told employees by email on September 20 that the authority and its employees were not at risk of losing health-care coverage and that WAPA was in good standing with Cigna and other health-care providers.
