Bryan issues June proclamations recognizing fishing, health and cultural observances

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a series of proclamations for June recognizing fishing and boating, amateur radio operators, Caribbean-American heritage, men’s health, ocean awareness, sickle cell anemia awareness, HIV testing, LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and Virgin Islands Freedom Week.

Bryan proclaimed June 1 through June 9 as National Fishing and Boating Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The proclamation said fishing supports the territory’s economy, provides food and promotes conservation and outdoor recreation.

He also proclaimed June 23 through June 29 as Amateur Radio Week, with June 25 designated as a field day for amateur radio operators. The proclamation recognized amateur radio operators, or HAMS, for volunteer emergency communications support for the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency.

Bryan proclaimed June as National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, Men’s Health Month, National Ocean Month and LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the territory.

He also declared June 19 as World Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness Day and June 29 as National HIV Testing Day.

In addition, Bryan proclaimed June 26 through July 3 as Virgin Islands Freedom Week.
