Mapp administration presented flood-mitigation plans at Estate Nadir town hall
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp discussed flood-mitigation plans for Estate Nadir on St. Thomas, Savan in Charlotte Amalie and Estate La Grange in Frederiksted during a town hall meeting at Estate Nadir on October 11, 2018, according to Government House.
The administration said residents were asked to provide input before the government moved forward. A rendering of the proposed plan for Estate La Grange was presented at the meeting.
Public Works Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would take part in an eight-month consultation and design period, followed by two to three years of construction. He also said it was too early to determine which homes or properties might be needed for the project until the charrette process was completed and a final design was prepared.
Lt. Gov. Osbert E. Potter and St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Merwin Potter also attended, along with residents.
Government House said a group of Estate Nadir residents formed a panel to compile issues, concerns and possible solutions for presentation at the next town hall meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers.
