Mapp directed OMB to release funds to nonprofit organizations

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp directed the Office of Management and Budget on March 20, 2018, to release funds to local nonprofit organizations as authorized by law.

During a meeting that day, OMB Acting Director Julio Rhymer briefed Mapp on organizations awaiting funding, according to Government House. Mapp instructed OMB to continue releasing allotments, particularly to nonprofits providing social, health and safety services, over the following several weeks.

Mapp also directed OMB to work with the Department of Finance to release the funds as soon as possible. Government House said he noted that more than $3 million in grants distributed through the Virgin Islands Hurricane Recovery and Resiliency Task Force and the Community Foundation of the U.S. Virgin Islands was not intended to replace money appropriated by the Legislature.
