WAPA said GIS inventory work was nearing completion on St. John and beginning on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on Aug. 2, 2023, that a Geographic Information Systems inventory project for its electric transmission and distribution system was nearing completion on St. John and had begun on St. Croix.
WAPA said technicians from Davey Resource Group, a subcontractor on the project, were visiting transmission and distribution assets including poles, meters and padmount equipment. The authority said the GIS work was intended to support disaster recovery, response to system problems, asset tracking, load monitoring and system analysis.
On St. John, WAPA said assessments of overhead construction and underground manholes were expected to be completed during the week of Aug. 12, 2023. On St. Croix, the authority said overhead assessments had begun on Feeders 1A, 2A and 3A, and manhole assessments were scheduled to begin during the week of Aug. 14, 2023. WAPA said all assessments on St. Croix were expected to be completed by mid-December 2023.
WAPA said contractors would be using video cameras and other devices during the field inventory and could be identified by contractor ID badges, safety vests and a letter of authority. The authority said contractors would not request entry into residential homes or commercial spaces.
