Bryan met with D.C. officials and Howard University on telehealth partnerships
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met on Feb. 7 with officials from the Washington, D.C., mayor’s office and Howard University Provost Anthony Wutoh to discuss telehealth, health data systems and potential partnerships for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Government House said.
The meetings were organized by Office of Health Information Technology Director Michelle Francis. Bryan was joined by representatives of the Bureau of Information Technology, the Department of Health, Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center, Schneider Regional Medical Center, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Virgin Islands Next Generation Network.
At the D.C. mayor’s office, the delegation met with Wayne Turnage, the District of Columbia deputy mayor for health and human services and director of the Department of Health Care Finance, along with other public health officials. Government House said the discussions covered clinical data exchange and coordination among physical, behavioral, social and human services.
The delegation also met with Wutoh and members of his team at Howard University to discuss telehealth, remote patient monitoring, research and possible partnerships involving academic research and technical expertise. Government House said additional sessions included meetings with Google and other private-sector leaders in cloud computing, data aggregation and IT infrastructure.
Government House said the discussions came as the territory prepared to convene its first governance meeting for the U.S. Virgin Islands Health Information Exchange.
