Bryan said Virgin Islands issued nearly $10 million in stimulus checks during week of May 11
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said during a May 14, 2020, COVID-19 briefing that the Virgin Islands Finance Department began sending stimulus checks on May 11 and was expected to issue 6,271 checks totaling nearly $10 million by May 15.
According to Government House, 2,595 checks totaling $3.9 million had been sent as of May 14, and another 3,676 checks totaling about $6 million were scheduled to be sent on May 15.
Bryan also said an assistance center would be opened to help people complete a 2018 Form 1040 so they could receive stimulus payments more quickly.
The administration said the Lieutenant Governor's Office asked recipients to use a banking app or an ATM, if possible, to deposit the checks.
