The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it participated in Week of the Young Child activities held April 10 through April 16, 2023, a nationwide observance focused on early childhood education.

WAPA said employees volunteered at the Eulalie R. Rivera and Lew Muckle elementary schools on St. Croix, where students received presentations on water conservation, electrical safety, lineworker careers and the utility’s role in the territory. The authority said lineworkers also demonstrated features of bucket trucks used to service electrical poles.

WAPA said more than 500 students attended the events at the two schools.

The authority also said a five-minute video was shared through the Virgin Islands Department of Education with students who did not attend in person. According to WAPA, the video covered the utility’s organizational structure, career opportunities, electric vehicles and renewable energy.
