WAPA lineworkers trained on new bucket trucks and used one to install Miracle on Main Street lights
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on December 9, 2022, that it had received three new Versalift bucket trucks, including one funded entirely by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
WAPA said lineworkers received training on the trucks earlier that week from a representative of Smyrna Truck and Cargo of Milledgeville, Georgia.
According to the authority, the new vehicles were intended to improve operations, service response and working conditions for lineworkers. WAPA also said one truck included hybrid technology powered by an onboard battery system used to operate the aerial lift device.
The authority said lineworkers used one of the new bucket trucks on December 6, 2022, to hang lights for the Miracle on Main Street holiday event scheduled for December 16, 2022, in Charlotte Amalie.
