U.S. Virgin Islands removed from European Commission high-risk list
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on March 9, 2019, that the U.S. Virgin Islands had been removed from a European Commission list of 23 high-risk jurisdictions tied to anti-money-laundering and counterterrorism-financing concerns.
The European Union had added the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam and American Samoa to the list on Feb. 12, 2019. The source statement said the U.S. Virgin Islands had first been placed on the list in March 2018.
According to Government House, the change followed objections from 27 of the 28 European Union member states during a council meeting in Brussels the previous week.
