The Virgin Islands Fire Service paid $353,766 in retroactive salary increases to 138 employees under the 2019 collective bargaining agreement, Government House said on June 14, 2021.

According to the announcement, $204,447 was paid to 95 employees in the St. Thomas-St. John District and $149,318 was paid to 43 employees in the St. Croix District.

Notices of Personnel Action were processed effective Oct. 1, 2019, for unionized officers and Oct. 1, 2020, for unionized supervisors, and retroactive wages were paid for all executed personnel actions, the statement said.

Government House said personnel actions remained pending for 25 employees and seven retirees who were promoted after Oct. 1, 2019, and Oct. 1, 2020. It said employees who had actions such as promotions, career incentives, certifications or transfers before the negotiated increase required additional processing before the salary increase could take effect.
