The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on June 22, 2023, that a Geographic Information Systems inventory project for its electric transmission and distribution division had begun on St. John.

WAPA said technicians from Davey Resource Group, a subcontractor on the project, started field work on St. John during the week of June 20, 2023. The work was to include visits to transmission and distribution assets including poles, meters and padmount equipment. WAPA said an additional visit was planned for late July to collect data from each manhole.

After work on St. John, the technicians were scheduled to continue to St. Croix and then St. Thomas. WAPA said the field data would be processed and configured by Symbiosa.

WAPA said the inventory was intended to support disaster recovery, response to system problems, asset tracking, load monitoring and system analysis. The authority said technicians would use video cameras and other devices during the field inventory and could be identified by WAPA contractor ID badges, safety vests and a letter of authority.
