348 students received diplomas at two St. Croix high school commencements
Graduation ceremonies for St. Croix Central High School and St. Croix Educational Complex High School were held on St. Croix on June 27 and June 28, 2018, with 348 students receiving diplomas, according to Government House.
At Central High School’s commencement ceremony on June 27, 135 graduates received diplomas. Madelin Yousef was recognized as valedictorian and Taylor Lampkin as salutatorian. Hakeem Macintosh was the keynote speaker.
Government House said more than $3 million in scholarships were awarded to Central students attending schools including the University of the Virgin Islands, Howard University and Rutgers University.
At Educational Complex High School’s ceremony on June 28, 213 students received diplomas. Government House described it as the territory’s largest graduating class that year.
Ali Boucenna was named valedictorian and Chelsea Valery salutatorian. Keynote addresses were delivered by 2008 alumni Dr. Tramaine Creighton and Jamal Samuel.
According to Government House, 140 Complex graduates had been accepted to colleges and universities, 39 planned to attend technical schools and 20 had enlisted in the military. The class had been awarded more than $4 million in scholarships.
