WAPA board approved $223,300 for Long Reef Road resurfacing on St. Croix
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s governing board approved funding on June 18, 2020, to repave Long Reef Road on St. Croix after completion of a waterline installation project. WAPA said VI Paving submitted the lowest of four bids, at $223,300.
WAPA said the Pressure Management Phase 2B project had included asphalt resurfacing of trenched areas, but an excavation permit required the authority to resurface the full stretch of roadway after the work was completed. The road, which WAPA said extends about one-half mile, had drawn complaints from residents over its condition.
Under the arrangement described by WAPA, low areas of the road were to be spot-repaired and the full road surface overlaid with asphalt. The authority said the work was expected to be completed by the end of August 2020.
WAPA said the Department of Public Works commissioner had assured the utility that the department would reimburse the cost of the road repair and repaving.
