Finance Department issued additional $16.1 million in income tax refunds
The Virgin Islands Finance Department issued $16.1 million in income tax refunds in two disbursements in December 2019, according to a Government House statement released on December 20, 2019.
The statement said $9.5 million was disbursed on December 12, 2019, and another $6.6 million on December 19, 2019.
Government House said that in fiscal year 2020 through December 20, 2019, the administration had issued $34.8 million in income tax refunds tied to 13,307 processed tax returns. Since January 2019, it said, a total of $63.8 million in refunds had been issued on 26,127 processed returns.
The statement also said that in November 2019, 6,981 income tax refunds totaling $18.8 million were distributed.
According to the statement, some filers may not have received refunds because of an incorrect address, an incorrect Social Security number, or an audit.
