Bryan announced health and wellness program focused on seniors
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. announced on May 2, 2022, a health and wellness program called "Our Best Life" aimed at supporting residents’ physical, mental and emotional well-being, with a focus on seniors.
Government House said the program would be managed jointly by the Office of the Governor, the Department of Human Services and the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation.
As part of the initiative, the administration said it was re-establishing the Commission on Aging to suggest policies affecting seniors, providing more training for home health-care aides and expanding Meals on Wheels services. Government House also said the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation would announce family-oriented events in the following weeks and that the "Our Best Life" website was scheduled to launch on May 16, 2022.
In the announcement, Bryan said Virgin Islanders spent more than $150 million annually in medical claims and cited chronic-disease indicators including diabetes, high blood pressure, diet and physical activity levels among adults in the territory.
